Joint problems and soft tissue injuries can be extremely painful, chronic and stressful. Some patients struggle to play sports because of joint stiffness. Other groups of patients cannot even walk because of the pain.

In regenerative medicine and physiotherapy there are many methods to decrease pain in the joints and regenerate injured structures.

Monroe Clinic can offer advanced physiotherapy treatments for joint pain and swelling.

We can offer manual therapy, heat therapy, clinical massage and acupuncture for tendonitis, joints and soft tissue injuries.

Our latest achievement  is introducing Joint Injection and PRP Injections called plasma injections.

Platelet Rich Plasma injections (PRP) are regarded as a revolutionary tool in the field of regenerative medicines.

Our clinician - Monika Milczarek received a Prestige Award for the Best Healthcare Provider of the Year for her innovative approach and professionalism. She is a pioneer in joint injections and regenerative medicine.

 According to our experience, patients who use PRP injections receive a very effective reduction in  pain. Many of them avoid surgery and stop using painkillers. Patients return to daily activities after just a short course of advanced joint injections.

What is platelet-rich plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma consists of two elements: plasma, or the liquid element of blood, and platelets, a type of blood cell that plays an important role in healing and regeneration.

We can offer professional PRP Joint Injections in Belfast and PRP Joint Injections in London.

COMMONLY TREATED CONDITIONS WITH PRP Joint Injections.

What is a PRP injection?

After creating platelet-rich plasma from a patient’s blood sample, that liquid is injected into an injured knee, shoulder or a tendon.

Various studies show that the increased concentration of growth factors in platelet-rich plasma may stimulate the healing process,  and decrease pain associated with arthritis.

PRP can also improve hair growth and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

PRP Therapy Risks and Side Effects

A PRP injection is a low-risk procedure.

PRP injections are made up of your own cells and plasma. That is why the risk of an allergic reaction is much lower than with other injectable medications.

Less common risks of PRP injections include:

  • Bleeding

  • Tissue damage

  • Infection

  • Nerve injuries

What are the benefits of PRP Injections?

  • Reconstruction of the injured tissue

  • Prevention of painful inflammatory processes

  • Improvement in mobility

  • Delay in progression of the disease and the need for an artificial joint

  • Reduction of analgesics with possible side effects.

  • Inhibit inflammation and slow down the progression of osteoarthritis;

  • Stimulate the formation of new cartilage;

  • Increase the production of natural lubricating fluid in the joints, thereby easing painful joint friction;

  • Contain proteins that alter a patient’s pain receptors and reduce pain sensation.

How do platelet-rich plasma injections reduce pain?

there are many studies analysing the effects of PRP on cells and tissue in a lab. Platelets are important components  that control clotting. They contain a high concentration of growth factors.

These growth factors control inflammation and healing. Injecting platelet-rich plasma into a joint or tendon leads to the release of growth factors . This automatically leads to a lower level of pain and tissue healing.

Researches prove that PRP Injection Therapy  reduces pain and potentially delays the need for a knee replacement.

Is there evidence for platelet-rich plasma injections?

There are various studies confirming  the following:

 - In plantar fasciitis, PRP is better than cortisone in 9 studies. In patients with severe plantar fasciitis, PRP is better than cortisone and safer than surgery.

 - One study shows that PRP is better than cortisone for hip tendonitis.

How many platelet-rich plasma injections do you need?

This would depend on the patient. Usually 3-5 injections every 4 weeks are required.

Will platelet-rich plasma injections hurt?

In general PRP  injections are not painful.

Sometimes, a clinician will inject a local anesthetic into the skin to stop the PRP injection

from hurting.
